bay area and if you think it was cold today, just wait. expect near record lows tonight. >> i know the weather sounds like a broken record, but we could break some records tonight. we'll get down to the low 20s again, but take heart. we'll be able to change the forecast in a little bit because we're looking for a bit of a warming trend after tomorrow night. we still have freeze warnings in effect for tonight. temperatures will dive as low as the low 20s. that could be record breaking territory for parts of the bay area. it's posted for the entire bay area, hard freeze warning posted in the central valley. the only exception is san francisco with the urban heat island meaning that we'll stay a little bit above freezing in the city itself. overnight lows will be as low as 23 degrees at santa rosa tonight, 24 at napa, san jose down to 30 degrees and redwood city 28. we'll have the entire forecast which does look frigid for tomorrow but a warming trend in sight in a few minutes. using wind machines -- as ls

this summer. many experiments believe human error was to blame and a report in today's chronicle shows the first bay area responders lacked training for a disaster like this. after four people were killed last week in a derailment in the bronx two federal lawmakers want cameras mounted in trains pointed at the tracks and at the engineers on board. the national transportation safety board made a similar suggestion. one of the senators says the cameras will be able to detect and prevent problems. >> as we move forward from the crash, we have to focus on the lessons that we learned in the past week and make sure that these things don't happen again. reports are now pointing to human error. accident. in addition to the 4 killed, 60 others were >> the engineer nodded off or experienced some sort of daze just before the accident they say. in addition to the four killed, 60 others were injured when the train barreled into a 30-mile an hour turn going more than 80 miles an hour. this afternoon a medical

team from sanford hospital returned from the philippines. the team spent two weeks providing medical help in the region which was hard hit by typhoon haiyan. in their first four days in tacloban they treated more than 2,500 patients. the team helped heal physical wounds and provided support for emotional ones. >> just them listening about their stories and i think they feel good. our presence actually makes them feel good and they're very grateful for that and i'm glad that we were there. >> on average they saw several hundred people a day at clinics throughout the affected regions. he would seen fans get out of control before at candlestick park. who can forget this fight in the stands during a raiders game a couple years ago? the seattle seahawks were in town today and they have quickly become the biggest rival of the 9ers and with that intensity there were concerns of fans fighting today, but as mark kelly reports, san

eagles game. >> those guys are rugged guys. that's what makes football seem like the tough sport that it is. for us temperatures in the 20s tonight. protect the pets, plants and we'll make it through. temperatures will be mostly in the 30s and 20s tonight, 23 degrees in santa rosa, record territory, 24 forecast overnight low at travis air force base at fairfield and 27 degrees at livermore. it will be down to 30 in san jose. so this cold snap is still in full force even now and it's -- what time is it? it's about 10 minutes to 7:00 and it's 38 degrees already at concord, livermore 47 degrees, 41 san jose. if you're heading out, it's going to be chilly tonight. wind speeds are beginning to die down to the 5 to 10-mile an hour range and the temperatures come down with them. so a chilly night and the clear skies aren't helping. by 8:00 tonight readings will be in the 30s inland and around the bay and the coast in the

low 40s. so real cold weather is continuing in the bay area by california standards, but we will begin to edge high temperatures up tomorrow into the low 50-degree range, plenty of sunshine, but it will be chilly. that low pressure that was over us now heads into the midwest over the panhandle region of texas and as a result they're getting ice storms in parts of the southeast, a real mess out there. for our part of country this cold pool of air will settle over the west coast another 48 hours and then we nudge it aside. in the meantime lows plunge to the 20s inland tonight as high pressure builds in offshore. we'll be looking for sunshine and things warming slightly a few degrees a day and then we'll be back to 60 degrees for forecast highs by thursday. so after the record lows tonight slight warming trend begins tomorrow. it won't be warm tomorrow, just a bit warmer than told which is not saying much -- today which is not saying much. we'll be back to near 60 did he

by mid-week. look -- near 60 degrees by midweek. look at miami, 82 degrees. teens and 0 degrees in lake wobegone territory in minneapolis. for us numbers considerably warmer, 50s in the central valley, 55 degrees at monterey and for forecast highs in the bay area we'll still about 10 degrees below average this time of year with san jose coming in at only 51 degrees, 48 at hayward tomorrow, lots of sunshine, 50 at pittsburg, 47 degrees san ramon, north bay low 50s. those numbers are up 5 degrees from today. it won't feel warm, but it won't be quite as cold. in the extended forecast we'll have sunshine between now and wednesday and then set the stage for the numbers to warm to near 60 degrees by the latter half of the week. we'll increase clouds, but there's not a drop of rain in the forecast. that's looking all the way out to christmas eve. >> that far out.

49ers were looking not only for payback but for affirmation that they can do more than hang with winning teams, they can beat them. seattle fans paid money to have this banner flown above the stick. 49er defense and special teams brought it early, kassim osgood with the blocked punt setting up one of three 49er field goals in the 1st half. while san francisco kicked three, the seahawks were busy getting six. marshawn lynch beast mode 11- yard scar to give seattle the lead it. wasn't till right before the half the 49ers hit the end zone, colin kaepernick to vernon davis, 49ers by two points at the half. kaepernick gets picked off in the 3rd by byron maxwell at the goal line, wasted trip by the offense into the seahawks red zone. seattle was held to a field goal and in the 4th to go up by one the 49ers to chance a response. there goes frank gore scampering for a season long 51 yards before stopping at the

seattle 20. then a few plays later the 3rd down situation colin kaepernick, watch the convoy of blockers and he gets the 1st down. it was huge because they ran the clock down, kept russell wilson on the sideline and with 30 seconds to go phil dawson did this to win the football game and the 49ers do indeed beat a winning team, 19-17 over their division rivals. >> feels like you go to the dentist chair and 3 1/2 hours of getting root canal work done, you know. they're tough. >> no, we didn't predict it to be this way. we expected to blow them out. they got the benefit of a few calls tonight throughout the game. that helps you, especially on 3rd down, but we'll see them again. it will be a different result. >> reporter: you thought it it would be a blowout? >> yeah. that's what we expected. >> so the 49ers are 9-4 and mold a one game lead over the -- hold a one game lead over the cardinals for the wildcard

spot and are mathematically still alive to win the nfc west. the raiders against the jets in new york, matt mcgloin quarterback but geno smith came out flinging. jeremy curly in the end zone and dennis allen pulls mcgloin after two offensive series, gives the ball to terrelle pryor. he brought the raiders downfield hitting rod street are for the 1st down setting up -- rod streater for the 1st down setting up for a field goal. then mcgloin is brought back in and it's lobbed and picked off, a field goal set up 13-3 jets. then things get worse for the raiders. antonio allen rushes the punt, blocked, falls on the ball in the end zone, 20-3 at the half. the raiders came out smoking in the 2nd half, mcgloin hands it off to marcel reece and 63-yard touchdown. that's the longest in his career. the raiders were down 20-10. maybe we got a game, but the jets respond in the 4th.
